Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System publicly announces and notifies stakeholders about the start of the process of revisioning of the standard UA SFM ST 02 Sustainable Forest Management. General provisions under the PEFC system

The standard will be revisioned by the permanent Working Group on the development of the forest management standard, the composition of which was approved on January 6, 2022, supplemented, if necessary, by representatives of stakeholders who have an interest in improving the provisions of the standard.

Scope of application of the standard and its objectives

The standard establishes the basic provisions of sustainable forest management, intended to the ensuring of high productivity and stability of forests, conservation and restoration of forest biodiversity, minimization or elimination of negative effects of forestry production on the environment, sustainable forest use, economic efficiency of forestry production, its social function.

The standard establishes special requirements for Forest plantations on forest lands, as well as Trees outside Forests growing on lands of all other categories, except for forest lands.

The standard is intended to be used by legal entities (their branches, representative offices, departments or other separate units) and / or private individuals engaged in forest management and / or forest use. The standard requirements are also applicable for economic entities that render services (perform work) in forestry. The standard requirements cover all necessary processes aimed at the achieving of sustainable forest use, all types of products and services.

During the development of the standard, the following approximate work schedule will be implemented:

  1. Invitation of stakeholders and additions, if necessary, to the permanent Working Group - four weeks from the moment of public announcement.
  2. Preparation by the Working Group of the first edition of the revisioned standard. First public discussion - 60 days from the moment of announcement of the start of the public discussion.
  3. Preparation by the Working Group of the second edition of the revisioned standard based on the results of the first public discussion. Second public discussion - 30 days from the moment of announcement of the start of the public discussion. Field testing of the revisioned standard by the involved certification bodies.
  4. Preparation by the Working Group of the third (final) edition of the revisioned standard based on the results of the second public discussion and field testing and preparation of a report on the work performed.
  5. Preparation by the Chairman of the Association of a draft of the revisioned standard for approval by the General Meeting of the Council of the Association.
  6. Approval of the revisioned standard by the General Meeting of the Council of the Association and its submission for approval by PEFC International.

The start of the revision procedure - no later than June 24, 2025.

The end of the work - no later than June 24, 2026.

Opportunities for participation of stakeholders in the standard revision process

All stakeholders can participate in the process:

1) as participants (member, observer, consultant) of the Working Group;

2) as a participant in the discussion of the draft revisioned standard.

 

The Working Group for the development of the forest management standard will, if necessary, be supplemented by representatives of stakeholders who have an interest in improving the provisions of the standard.

The Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System appeals to stakeholders with a proposal to take an active part in the process and propose the candidacy of their representative to the Working Group.

We ask stakeholders to send proposals for candidacies to the members of the Working Group indicating:

Full name, position in the organization, subgroup, proposed status (member, observer, consultant), contact details for feedback (phone, e-mail).

The Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System will select participants and approve the composition of the Working Group based on the proposed candidates. The selected participants will be notified in a timely manner about the next steps and activity plans.

We inform you that any legal entity or individual can provide their comments regarding the scope and process of revisioning the standard.
