Association NATIONAL VOLUNTARY FOREST CERTIFICATION SYSTEM as part of the procedure for revision the standard announces and informs stakeholders about holding a public consultation of the first edition of the project of the revision standard of forest management according to the PEFC system

UA SFM ST 02:2022 SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT. REQUIREMENTS

Public discussion officially begins on January 28, 2026, and will continue for 60 calendar days until and including March 6, 2026.

The revision concerns the expansion of the scope and amendments to the current UA SFM ST 02:2020 SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT. General Provisions (link).

The draft of the revision standard UA SFM ST 02:202X SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT. REQUIREMENTS establishes special requirements for plantation forests on forest fund lands and on other lands in accordance with the intended purpose, as well as special requirements for the exclusion from the scope of PEFC certification of land plots of the forest fund of Ukraine contaminated with explosive ordnances. These requirements are placed in Annexes B and Г.

The revision standard contains a number of modifications for alignment with the European Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR) therefore enabling PEFC-certified raw material coming out of PEFC-certified forests to be EUDR compliant. Other changes and additions relate to the improvement of sustainable forest management, taking into account the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine.

The standard establishes the basic provisions of sustainable forest management, intended to:

  • the ensuring of high productivity and stability of forests,
  • conservation and restoration of forest biodiversity,
  • minimization or elimination of negative effects of forestry production on the environment,
  • sustainable forest use,
  • economic efficiency of forestry production,
  • its social function.

Comments and suggestions both to the updated elements of the standard, and to the standard and the process of its updating in general, please state (in the form of Appendix A) specifically and substantiated for each item, subsection, paragraph, appendix in the following sequence:

  • on the feasibility of developing a standard;
  • about the project as a whole;
  • about the name of the standard;
  • about the scope of the standard;
  • about the standard structure;
  • about individual sections, divisions, paragraphs, sub-paragraphs, paragraphs, and appendices of the standard.
