Association National Voluntary Forest Certification publicly announces and informs stakeholders about the process of developing a PEFC forest management standard.

The development of the standard will be undertaken by a Working Group composed of representatives of different stakeholder subgroups who may wish to participate in the process.

 

Scope of the standard and its objectives

The standard establishes the main provisions of sustainable forest management and forest management aimed at ensuring high productivity and sustainability of forests, conservation and restoration of biodiversity in forests, minimizing or excluding the negative impact of forest production on the environment, non-exhausting forest management, on the economic efficiency of forest production, its social function.

The standard is intended for use by legal entities and / or individuals who are engaged in forestry and / or forest management. The requirements of the standard also apply to business entities-contractors who provide services in forestry. The requirements of the standard cover all necessary processes aimed at achieving sustainable forest management, all types of products and services.

The development of the standard is one of the tools for achieving sustainable development Goals in the forest management system.

 

During the development of the standard, the following approximate work schedule will be implemented:

1. Inviting interested parties and forming a working group – four weeks from the date of public announcement.

2. Preparation of the first version of the standard by the Working group. First public consultation – 60 days from the moment of announcement of the beginning of public consultation.

3. Preparation of the second version of the standard based on the results of the first public consultation. Second public consultation – 30 days from the moment of the announcement of the beginning of the public consultation. Field testing of the standard by involved certification bodies.

4. Preparation of the third (final) version of the standard based on the results of the second public consultation. Directions of the PEFC International standard for approval.

Start of work - no later than December 16, 2019.

Completion of work – no later than January 31, 2021.

Opportunities for stakeholder participation in the standard development process

All interested parties can participate in the process:

1) as participants (member, observer, consultant) Working group;

2) as a participant in the discussion of the draft standard.

The balanced equal representation working group will be formed from two representatives of the Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System  and two representatives from each of the five subgroups that represent the interests of:

1-forest management bodies;

2-business and industry;

3-non-governmental organizations;

4-scientific and technical community;

5-workers and trade unions.

 

The Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System appeals to interested parties to take an active part in the process and to nominate a representative to the Working group.

We ask interested parties to send proposals for candidates for the working group with the following information:

Full name, position in the organization, subgroup, proposed status (member, observer, consultant), contact information for feedback (phone, e-mail).

The Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System will select participants and approve the composition of the Working group based on the proposed candidates. Selected participants will be notified in a timely manner of the next steps and activity plans.
