Kiev. June 3. UNIAN. At the Second All-Ukrainian Timber Forum, which was initiated by the NGO "Association of Woodworkers and Loggers of Lviv Region" and took place on May 20 as part of the 23rd International Exhibition "Woodworking", industry representatives from almost all regions of Ukraine got acquainted with new forest certification and discussions.

The forum also included a presentation of the world's largest forest certification - PEFC Forest Certification System, the possibility of which is offered by the Association "National Voluntary Forest Certification System".

"The introduction of internationally recognized certification will provide businesses with a choice and will open additional sales opportunities, as well as positively affect Ukraine's reputation on the global market. It should be noted that 75% of the world's certified forests are certified by the PEFC system, it is represented in more than 70 countries, "said Alla Oborska, Executive Director of the Association.

Mariya Maha, head of the Association National Voluntary Forest Certification System, said that forest certification gives consumers confidence that the consumption of forest and wood products will not lead to deforestation.

“The trademark, which marks forest certification on products, informs us that the product comes from forests with sustainable forest management. A sustainable product can be produced and consumed without harming or destroying the planet's resources, ” said Mariya.

According to the head of the Association, the advantage of certification is that wood producers and forest users receive a reward (higher price for wood) for choosing sustainable forest management.

Buyers of finished products are also willing to pay more to contribute to a sustainable economy.
